Meet Our Nursery Manager – Kirsty

A little about me - I’ve worked in childcare since the age of 16, starting as an apprentice and working my way up to Head Nursery Manager. With over 22 years of experience, I’ve gained a deep understanding of childcare and child development. Along the way, I’ve completed extensive training, including DSL, SENCO Lead, and Prevent Duty. I’m a firm believer in continuous learning and reflection, which helps me grow both personally and professionally.

I’ve been the Nursery Manager at Hamond House for over 10 years, and I genuinely love every aspect of my role. From ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the nursery to supporting and mentoring staff as they progress in their own careers, I take great pride in the work we do together as a team.

Outside of work, family is everything to me. On my days off, you’ll usually find me outdoors—enjoying long walks in nature or soaking in a beautiful view (I can never resist one!). More recently, I’ve also taken up fishing, and I’m really enjoying the mix of peace and excitement it brings.

As you are aware, this term we are focusing on 'People who Help us' This week the Preschool have been looking at Doctors and nurses. Look at some of the fantastic activities set up by Humaira, The Preschool Room Leader. The children have had so much fun exploring a range of different things you may see in a hospital or doctors surgery and had time to pretend to be one of them, caring for their friends and toys at the setting.
What a truly magical experience the children, staff and residents at Claremont house had today! The children have been practicing Christmas carols for the last month and today they got to go sing along with the residents and staff. It was such a wonderful experience for all and certainly a memory we will treasure. We will certainly be visiting more often! Well done to the nursery children and we hope Claremont residents, staff and their families have a lovely Christmas!
On Tuesday a small group of children from both settings went down to Heckmondwike Library to join in with their Storytime/rhyme time. The children had an amazing morning and even checked out some Library books to share with the children back at nursery. Thank you for having us, it was a pleasure.
